Our Law Scholars summer course, designed for students aged 12–14, gives students the opportunity to explore legal ideas beyond their usual studies while developing their critical thinking and communication skills.

What Is Law Scholars?
Law Scholars introduces students to legal thinking and some of the fundamental questions surrounding laws, rights, responsibilities and justice.
Studying law involves more than learning rules. Legal questions often require us to examine evidence, interpret information, consider competing arguments and explain why one conclusion may be more convincing than another.
Law also raises broader questions about society. Why do we need laws? What makes a law fair? How should disagreements be resolved? And how should individual rights be balanced against the interests of others?
A Law Scholars summer course gives students the opportunity to explore questions like these in an age-appropriate academic environment while developing their ability to think critically and communicate reasoned arguments.
What Will Students Explore on the Law Scholars Course?
There is no prescribed syllabus that every student follows. Atlas Summer Courses tutors create their own syllabi, drawing on their expertise while taking the interests, abilities and learning needs of their students into account.
Depending on the tutor and group, students could explore different ideas connected with law, justice, rights, evidence and legal reasoning.
They might consider questions such as:

Our Scholars courses are designed to make learning engaging, interactive and appropriately challenging for students aged 12–14.
12 hours of small-group lessons
Across the one-week programme, students take part in structured small-group classes. Lessons are designed to encourage students to think actively and engage with the subject, with tutors involving everyone and fostering curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Each lesson follows a process of review, learning and application, giving students opportunities to revisit ideas, develop their understanding and then apply what they have learned.
Within Law Scholars, this could involve discussing legal questions, considering different perspectives, examining evidence and developing reasoned arguments through age-appropriate activities. The precise approach will depend on the tutor, their expertise and the interests of the group.
The aim is to create an interactive environment in which students can participate actively, ask questions and develop greater confidence discussing and analysing legal ideas.
Who Is Law Scholars For?
Our Law Scholars summer course for 12–14-year-olds is designed for students who are curious about law, justice and how societies make and apply rules.
Students don't need any previous knowledge of law. The course may particularly appeal to those who enjoy debating ideas, considering different perspectives, analysing evidence or constructing arguments to support their views.
Students will be encouraged to develop transferable skills including critical thinking, reasoning, analysing evidence, constructing arguments, communication and independent learning.

Teaching depends on your age group. Students aged 9–12 and Scholars aged 12–14 learn through structured, interactive small-group classes. Students aged 13–15 combine small-group seminars with private study, while students aged 16–17 and 18–24 experience seminars, tutorials and independent study.
Across our programmes, teaching is designed to encourage active participation, questioning and independent thinking rather than simply listening to lectures.
