At Atlas Summer Courses, Mathematics is an advanced course designed for 18–24-year-olds who have a strong foundation in mathematics and want to deepen their understanding of the subject. Students will explore a wide range of advanced topics, from algebraic techniques to Markov chains, and examine the intuitive motivations behind some of the most elegant mathematical proofs. The course offers the chance to focus on specific areas, such as group theory and ordinary differential equations, while developing advanced problem-solving skills. Our expert tutors will guide you through complex mathematical concepts, preparing you for further academic study or a career in a mathematically-driven field. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and mathematical research skills, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn through our distinctive tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster independent learning, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity through interactive small-group seminars of up to 10 students. During your course, you'll complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. These tutorials allow you to refine your ideas, defend your arguments, receive detailed academic feedback, and engage in sophisticated discussion with your tutor and peers. Designed for adult learners, this teaching approach places greater emphasis on independent research, academic debate, and the confidence to think and communicate at university level. At the end of your course, you'll receive a certificate and a letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Cambridge, with over 800 years of academic tradition, has shaped some of the world’s greatest mathematical breakthroughs—from Isaac Newton’s laws of motion and calculus to modern advances in data science, cryptography, and theoretical physics. As part of the 18–24 Mathematics (Advanced) programme, you’ll live in a city defined by logic, problem-solving, and innovation. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, renowned libraries, and a tradition of mathematical discovery that continues to influence science and technology worldwide.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Mathematics provides the structure behind scientific discovery, technology, and innovation — from modelling climate systems to powering artificial intelligence. In Cambridge, students explore advanced mathematical thinking in areas such as calculus, algebra, probability, or applied modelling (tailored to interests and level). Discussions and collaborative problem-solving help learners deepen their understanding of how abstract ideas lead to practical solutions in the real world.
This advanced-level course is designed for students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study (or equivalent) in a related subject. Tutorials are capped at eight participants, with personalised tutor feedback on two independent assignments to strengthen proof construction, logical reasoning, and mathematical communication — key preparation for higher academic progression. College-style living, enrichment activities, and a global cohort contribute to an inspiring academic environment. Students finish with a certificate of completion, a tailored tutor recommendation, and increased confidence in their future mathematical pathway.

Oxford is open to all learners aged 18–24. Cambridge is more advanced and requires at least two years of undergraduate study in a related subject.
Students aged 18–24 receive a certificate of completion, detailed feedback from their tutor and a personalised letter of recommendation, reflecting their participation, academic progress and achievements during the course.
Atlas Summer Courses gives students aged 18–24 the opportunity to deepen their subject knowledge through small-group teaching and independent study. Students can engage with challenging ideas, develop their own academic thinking and learn alongside an international community of peers.
Applicants must be aged 18–24 and have completed at least the second year of an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject, as these are advanced courses. All lessons are taught in English, so students should have a good working understanding of spoken and written English.
