Courses for Ages 16–17

Our Cambridge Summer School for ages 16–17 is designed for students who are ready to explore their academic interests in greater depth and develop the confidence to think independently. Through small, discussion-based classes of no more than eight students, learners engage with complex ideas, challenge different perspectives, and deepen their understanding in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.

Students can choose from a wide range of subjects, including Medicine, Law, Economics, Engineering, Creative Writing, Artificial Intelligence, and more. Every course encourages students to connect academic theory with real-world challenges, strengthening critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills while preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey.

The Academic Experience

At our Cambridge Summer School for ages 16–17, students experience a university-style approach to learning through small-group seminars of no more than eight participants, where expert tutors encourage critical thinking, intellectual debate, and thoughtful discussion. Lessons are interactive and discussion-led, creating an environment where students can challenge assumptions, explore different perspectives, and engage confidently with complex ideas. Throughout the programme, every student completes two pieces of independent work—such as essays or problem sheets—which are reviewed in personalised one-to-one or two-to-one tutorials.

These personalised tutorials are at the heart of the Cambridge learning experience, providing the opportunity for in-depth feedback, intellectual discussion, and individual academic development. On successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate and a personalised letter of recommendation from their tutor, recognising their academic engagement, progress, and achievements.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At our Cambridge Summer School for ages 16–17, learning extends well beyond seminars and tutorials. Cambridge itself becomes part of the academic experience, with students exploring world-renowned museums, historic colleges, iconic libraries, and cultural landmarks that bring new perspectives to the subjects they are studying. Visits to places such as the Fitzwilliam Museum, punting on the River Cam, and exploring the city's historic streets encourage students to connect academic learning with history, culture, and contemporary ideas.

Beyond excursions, students engage with an international community of peers through discussions, shared experiences, and social activities that broaden perspectives and inspire new ways of thinking. Together, these experiences create a richer understanding of both their subject and the world beyond the classroom, leaving students with new insights, lasting friendships, and memories that continue long after the programme has ended.
