Outline

At Atlas Summer Courses, Psychology is designed for 16–17-year-olds interested in understanding the complex workings of the human mind. Students will explore the intricacies of thought processes, emotions, and behaviours, and how they are shaped by our past, environment, and biology. They’ll examine key psychological theories, including alternative approaches, the fundamentals of neuroanatomy, and the physiological aspects of the brain. Through both solo and group study, students will explore how the mind influences behaviour and vice versa. The course will help them develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making the learning experience both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and collaboration, as well as a reflection session to help students track their progress and set new goals.

Teaching methodology

Learn through our distinctive tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will encourage self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive small-group seminars of up to 10 students. During your course, you'll complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. These tutorials give you the opportunity to discuss your work in depth, receive personalised academic feedback, challenge your thinking, and gain new perspectives from your classmates. Together, the seminars and tutorials help you develop the analytical skills, intellectual confidence, and academic independence expected at leading universities. At the end of your course, you'll receive a certificate and a letter of recommendation from your tutor.

The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, renowned museums, and a tradition of exploring how people think, feel, and behave.

Food and catering

Meals are provided on a half-board basis, including breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, offering a variety of dining options.

The Atlas Summer Courses Experience

Psychology explores how we think, feel, and behave — from brain function to social interaction. In Cambridge, students stay in college accommodation and study in a city internationally recognised for psychological and neuroscience research. Alongside structured social activities and cultural excursions, they connect with like-minded peers from around the world, gaining confidence and independence in a safe, supportive setting.

Teaching takes place in small seminar-style groups (up to 10 students), where expert tutors introduce key areas such as cognitive psychology, mental health, behaviour, memory, and decision-making. Students complete two independent assignments and receive personalised feedback through 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial-style discussions. They finish the course with enhanced critical thinking, stronger analytical skills, and a certificate of completion plus a tailored tutor recommendation — a valuable asset for future academic pathways in psychology, medicine, or the social sciences.
