Learning
Outline
At Atlas Summer Courses, Technology Explorers is designed for 11–12-year-olds who are curious about how technology works and how it shapes the world around us. Students will get hands-on with the basics of programming, electronics, and design, while also exploring modelling, engineering, and creative problem-solving. They’ll learn how to think like inventors and approach challenges with innovation and logic. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, keeping it relevant, exciting, and engaging. Each day also includes a reflection activity to help students absorb what they’ve learned.
Teaching methodology
Our teaching for 11-12-year-old students is focused on interactive and task-based learning. You will be taught by experienced primary teachers, who are there to inspire and engage you with the subjects they are passionate about. Our courses run over a week, and during this time you will develop your subject knowledge through multimedia presentations, group work, games, problem-solving, and project work with a meaningful real-life focus. This teaching style has an increased focus on age-appropriate content and offers more opportunities for independent group work than our 9-10 courses.
The 11–12 Technology Explorers programme is hosted by Atlas Summer Courses at Harrow School, one of the UK's leading independent boarding schools. With caring house parents and dedicated on-course staff, your child will be supported and cared for as they discover how technology shapes the modern world. Harrow's tradition of producing innovators and forward-thinkers makes it an inspiring setting for young learners to experiment with ideas, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence alongside new friends.
Students stay in standard shared rooms at Harrow School, with caring house parents and on-course staff ensuring comfort, safety, and support throughout their stay.
Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students dine in the school’s dining hall or local facilities, with all dietary requirements catered for.
The Atlas Summer Courses Experience
Technology Explorers introduces young learners to the exciting role technology plays in shaping our world — from apps and robots to digital creativity and smart design. Through hands-on challenges and teamwork, students discover how problem-solving, logic, and imagination come together to create innovation. It’s a confidence-boosting way to explore technology as something they can build, shape, and understand — not just use.
Each weekday includes two extended morning lessons taught in small groups (max 12–15 students) where students get practical with coding concepts, digital design and technology-focused puzzles. Afternoons include guided project time, collaborative activities and off-site excursions that show technology in action beyond the classroom. With structured evening socials, full supervision and a supportive community, students grow their independence, teamwork and curiosity — discovering new ways to express ideas through tech.
