Learning

Outline

At Atlas Summer Courses, Psychology is designed for 13–15-year-olds who are curious about how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. Students will explore key psychological topics such as memory, social behaviour, and the factors that influence our decisions. They’ll examine how the brain functions, develop critical thinking skills, and learn how psychology plays a role in everyday life. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both relevant and engaging. The course also includes a masterclass on teamwork and debating, as well as a reflection session to help students track their progress and goals.

Teaching methodology

Learning in small groups (typically around 8–10 students) means you get quality time with your teacher and can ask as many questions as you like. Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and set practice tasks to help build your knowledge and skills. You’ll also have opportunities for group work, independent research, and homework assignments that are discussed in class. Small class sizes mean everyone has the chance to contribute, and students learn from debating with one another as well as from their tutor.

The city of Cambridge, with more than 800 years of academic tradition, has been central to groundbreaking discoveries in psychology—from early studies of cognition to advances in neuroscience and behaviour. As part of the 13–15 Psychology programme, your child will live in a city shaped by inquiry and discovery. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, world-class museums, and a tradition of asking big questions about how people think and behave.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier chosen. Plus students can choose single or twin, Superior guarantees an ensuite, and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All options include shared spaces and on-course staff for support.

Food and catering

Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students eat in the college dining hall or at local restaurants. All dietary requirements are catered for.

The Atlas Summer Courses Experience

Why do we think, feel, and behave the way we do? This course invites curious learners to explore the science of the mind — from memory and perception to decision-making, emotion and personality. Through practical experiments, case studies, and reflective discussion, students discover how psychologists study human behaviour and how these discoveries influence everyday life. It’s a supportive space to grow self-awareness, empathy, and confidence in expressing ideas.

Every weekday includes small, discussion-based seminars (up to 10 students) led by expert tutors who encourage critical thinking and curiosity. Afternoons blend directed study, masterclasses, and subject-linked excursions, giving students the chance to apply psychology to the world around them — whether observing behaviour in context or exploring interactive science spaces. With structured evening activities, time for connection, and full support from trained staff, students develop greater independence alongside new knowledge. They leave with stronger analytical skills and a deeper interest in how minds work — including their own.
