Learning
Outline
At Atlas Summer Courses, Physics is designed for 13–15-year-olds who want to understand the fundamental laws that govern the universe. Students will explore a range of topics, from mechanics and electronics to astrophysics and particle physics, developing both theoretical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills. They’ll apply the scientific method, analyse real-world examples, and work collaboratively to deepen their understanding of the universe’s patterns and behaviours. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning dynamic and thought-provoking. The course also includes a masterclass focused on teamwork and collaboration, along with a reflection session to help students track their goals and progress.
Teaching methodology
Learning in small groups (typically around 8–10 students) means you get quality time with your teacher and can ask as many questions as you like. Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and set practice tasks to help build your knowledge and skills. You’ll also have opportunities for group work, independent research, and homework assignments that are discussed in class. Small class sizes mean everyone has the chance to contribute, and students learn from debating with one another as well as from their tutor.
The city of Cambridge, with more than 800 years of academic tradition, has been central to some of the greatest discoveries in physics—from Isaac Newton’s laws of motion to Stephen Hawking’s work on black holes. As part of the 13–15 Physics programme, your child will live in a city shaped by scientific inquiry and innovation. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, world-class museums, and a tradition of discovery that continues to change how we understand the universe.
Accommodation is available in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier chosen. Plus students can choose single or twin, Superior guarantees an ensuite, and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All options include shared spaces and on-course staff for support.
Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students eat in the college dining hall or at local restaurants. All dietary requirements are catered for.
The Atlas Summer Courses Experience
Physics is the study of everything — from the smallest particles to the vastness of space — and Cambridge has long been a home for some of the brightest scientific thinkers in history. On this course, students explore exciting questions about motion, forces, energy, and the universe, learning how physics shapes the world around them. Lessons bring concepts to life through demonstrations, experiments, and collaborative problem-solving that nurture curiosity and confidence in equal measure.
With small, discussion-led classes (up to 10 students), every learner can ask questions, share ideas, and think more deeply. Across the week, students take part in directed study, seminars, and practical science-based challenges, building strong analytical skills and learning how to think like future researchers. Supported by expert tutors and surrounded by Cambridge’s inspiring academic setting, they’ll leave with a stronger understanding of physics — and a greater excitement for where science can take them.
