Study Psychology in Cambridge
Our Psychology summer courses in Cambridge give students aged 13–15 and 16–17 the opportunity to spend two weeks exploring the scientific study of thought, emotion and behaviour as part of an Atlas Summer Courses summer experience.
Psychology asks questions about why people behave as they do, how we perceive and understand the world, how experiences can influence us and what processes shape our thoughts, emotions and decisions.
Across the course, you'll be encouraged to look beyond everyday assumptions about human behaviour and consider how psychologists investigate these questions scientifically. You'll examine different explanations, consider evidence and explore why psychological questions can sometimes produce competing interpretations.
Outside your academic sessions, you'll experience the wider programme alongside other students, with time to enjoy Cambridge and take part in the social and cultural elements of your Atlas Summer Courses summer.
What Will You Study on a Psychology Summer Course in Cambridge?
There is no prescribed syllabus that every student follows. Atlas Summer Courses tutors create their own syllabi, drawing on their expertise while taking the interests, abilities and learning needs of their students into account.
Depending on your tutor, group and age range, you could explore different areas of psychology, from cognition and behaviour to development, social psychology, memory or the relationship between the brain and behaviour.
You might consider questions such as:
- How do psychologists study human thought and behaviour?
- How does memory work, and why do we sometimes forget?
- What influences the decisions people make?
- How can our social environment affect our behaviour?
- How do people develop and change throughout their lives?
- What can the brain tell us about thought, emotion and behaviour?
- How can psychological evidence support or challenge an explanation?
The depth and approach will reflect the age group you're studying with, as well as your tutor's academic expertise and the interests of the group. Any syllabus shown on our website is an example from a previous course rather than a guarantee of the exact psychological theories, studies or topics you'll explore.
