At Atlas Summer Courses, Mathematics is designed for 18–24-year-olds who are passionate about building a strong foundation in mathematical theory and techniques. Students will explore a range of topics, from algebraic techniques to advanced concepts like Markov chains and group theory. The course will help students uncover the intuitive motivations behind some of the most elegant mathematical proofs, equipping them with the tools they need to approach and solve complex problems. Students will master fundamental concepts in both pure and applied mathematics, including ordinary differential equations and more, setting them up for future study in this ever-evolving field. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and applicable. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking, as well as a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn through our distinctive tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster independent learning, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity through interactive small-group seminars of up to 10 students. During your course, you'll complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. These tutorials allow you to refine your ideas, defend your arguments, receive detailed academic feedback, and engage in sophisticated discussion with your tutor and peers. Designed for adult learners, this teaching approach places greater emphasis on independent research, academic debate, and the confidence to think and communicate at university level. At the end of your course, you'll receive a certificate and a letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with nearly 1,000 years of academic history, has been home to some of the world’s greatest mathematical thinkers, from Ada Lovelace, the pioneer of computing, to Sir Roger Penrose, Nobel Prize winner for his work on black holes. As part of the 18–24 Mathematics programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by logic, discovery, and innovation. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, libraries, and long tradition of mathematical achievement.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Mathematics is the language of patterns, logic, and discovery — a subject that unlocks deeper understanding of science, technology, and the world around us. In Oxford, students explore advanced concepts such as calculus, proof, algebraic structures, or applied modelling (depending on their interests), developing the ability to reason clearly and approach complex challenges with confidence. Discussions connect mathematical thinking to real-world innovation — from engineering and AI to finance and research.
Small tutorial groups (up to 10 students) ensure personalised attention, collaborative problem-solving, and space to ask bold questions. Two independent assignments receive detailed, tutorial-style feedback from an expert tutor — helping students refine their method, clarity of explanation, and mathematical communication. Combined with enrichment activities, college-style living, and an international peer community, students leave more confident in their abilities and equipped with a certificate, personalised tutor recommendation, and stronger preparation for future university study in mathematical fields.

Our courses for ages 18–24 are taught by experienced educators and subject specialists with expertise relevant to their subjects. Tutors shape their syllabi around their own areas of specialism. Tutors are confirmed closer to the summer, so profiles on our website are examples of educators who have previously taught with us.
Oxford is open to all learners aged 18–24. Cambridge is more advanced and requires at least two years of undergraduate study in a related subject.
Students aged 18–24 receive a certificate of completion, detailed feedback from their tutor and a personalised letter of recommendation, reflecting their participation, academic progress and achievements during the course.
Atlas Summer Courses gives students aged 18–24 the opportunity to deepen their subject knowledge through small-group teaching and independent study. Students can engage with challenging ideas, develop their own academic thinking and learn alongside an international community of peers.
There are no formal entry requirements. Students should have a genuine interest in their chosen subject, and teaching is tailored to each student’s interests and abilities so everyone can engage at the right level. All lessons are taught in English, so students should have a good working understanding of spoken and written English.
