A Safe, Supportive Environment for Every Student

At Atlas Summer Courses, the safety, wellbeing, and welfare of every student are our highest priorities. Every summer programme is designed to provide a secure, supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and enjoy their experience with confidence, while giving parents complete peace of mind. Our comprehensive safeguarding framework underpins every aspect of our programmes—from staff recruitment, training, and supervision to daily operations, pastoral care, and student support. With age-appropriate supervision, clear safeguarding procedures, and open communication with families, we create an environment where students feel safe, respected, and able to thrive.

Safety on Our Courses

Safeguarding is embedded into every Atlas Summer Courses summer programme. Clear procedures govern staff recruitment and training, student supervision, accommodation, excursions, and day-to-day operations, helping to ensure every student is supported throughout their time with us.

Before each programme begins, parents or guardians provide consent for activities, travel arrangements, and age-appropriate free time. This enables our team to support each student according to their age, individual needs, and programme, while maintaining clear communication with families throughout their stay.

Staff Supervision and Ratios

Atlas Summer Courses maintains age-appropriate staff-to-student ratios to ensure every student receives the support, supervision, and pastoral care they need throughout their programme. Younger students benefit from closer supervision and more structured routines, while older students are encouraged to develop independence within a safe and well-supported environment.

Every programme is staffed by trained residential and welfare teams, with supervision provided throughout the day and during organised activities and excursions. Qualified first aiders are available to support students, and appropriate medical assistance is provided whenever required, helping to ensure student wellbeing at all times.

Safe and Secure Learning Environments

Atlas Summer Courses carefully selects accommodation and teaching venues that support the safety, wellbeing, and supervision of our students. Many of our programmes take place on secure sites with controlled access, while all venues are assessed to ensure they meet our safeguarding and operational standards.

Students receive clear guidance on site safety when they arrive, and staff maintain appropriate supervision throughout the programme. Where required, identification procedures, visitor management, and venue-specific security measures are in place to help maintain a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Parental Consent and Documentation

Before a programme begins, parents or guardians complete consent forms covering activities, supervision arrangements, medical information, and travel permissions. For students under the age of 16, independent travel to and from the programme is not permitted.

Parents and guardians are also given access to our Safeguarding Policy and Code of Practice, which explain our safeguarding procedures, expectations, and commitment to student welfare. Providing this information before arrival helps ensure clear communication and a shared understanding throughout the programme.

FAQs about Student Safety

How are students supervised during the course?

Students are supervised by trained residential and academic staff at all times, with supervision levels tailored to each age group. Younger students receive closer supervision, while older students are supported in a way that encourages independence within clearly defined boundaries. Staff are present on site 24/7 for residential programmes.

What happens if my child is unwell or needs support?

There is always a qualified first aider available on site and on all excursions. If a student becomes unwell or needs additional support, staff respond promptly and keep parents informed. For more serious concerns, we work closely with local medical services and communicate clearly with families throughout.

How do you ensure accommodation and learning sites are secure?

The majority of our programmes take place on closed or controlled-access sites, many with 24-hour security. All students and staff wear identification at all times, and strict visitor policies are enforced. Our own safeguarding checks are carried out in addition to each venue’s existing safety procedures.

How will I stay informed while my child is on the course?

Before the course begins, parents receive detailed information about supervision, activities, and expectations. During the programme, our on-site teams are available to respond to any questions or concerns, ensuring parents feel informed, reassured, and confident throughout their child’s experience.
