At Atlas Summer Courses, Neuroscience is an advanced course designed for 18–24-year-olds who are deeply fascinated by the complexities of the human brain and eager to explore its intricate functions. Students will dive deep into the chemistry, structure, and operations of the brain, learning how it governs our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. The course offers an in-depth understanding of advanced topics such as the nervous system, cognitive functions, sensory processing, and neural development, all guided by experts in the field. Students will have the opportunity to investigate these areas through case studies and interactive discussions, developing both their theoretical knowledge and practical understanding. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and research skills, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn through our distinctive tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster independent learning, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity through interactive small-group seminars of up to 10 students. During your course, you'll complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. These tutorials allow you to refine your ideas, defend your arguments, receive detailed academic feedback, and engage in sophisticated discussion with your tutor and peers. Designed for adult learners, this teaching approach places greater emphasis on independent research, academic debate, and the confidence to think and communicate at university level. At the end of your course, you'll receive a certificate and a letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Cambridge, with over 800 years of academic tradition, has been central to groundbreaking discoveries in neuroscience—from early studies of brain function to modern advances in cognition, neuroimaging, and neural networks. As part of the 18–24 Neuroscience (Advanced) programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by inquiry and innovation. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, renowned research centres, and a tradition of exploring the complexities of the human brain.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Neuroscience explores the remarkable system that controls everything we think, feel, and do. In Cambridge, students examine the biology of the brain and nervous system, investigating topics such as cognition, neural communication, disorders, and the science behind behaviour. This is an advanced-level course for those who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study (or equivalent) in a related subject. Tutorials are capped at eight students to ensure collaborative and rigorous academic debate. Two independent assignments receive personalised tutor feedback that strengthens scientific writing, critical analysis, and research communication — invaluable preparation for further university study. Oxford is open to all learners aged 18–24. Cambridge is more advanced and requires at least two years of undergraduate study in a related subject.
Students aged 18–24 receive a certificate of completion, detailed feedback from their tutor and a personalised letter of recommendation, reflecting their participation, academic progress and achievements during the course.
Atlas Summer Courses gives students aged 18–24 the opportunity to deepen their subject knowledge through small-group teaching and independent study. Students can engage with challenging ideas, develop their own academic thinking and learn alongside an international community of peers.
Applicants must be aged 18–24 and have completed at least the second year of an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject, as these are advanced courses. All lessons are taught in English, so students should have a good working understanding of spoken and written English.
