Atlas Summer Courses Corporate Social Responsibility

Empowering Change Through Education

At Atlas Summer Courses, we believe learning should make a meaningful difference — not only in the lives of our students, but in the world around them. Our responsibility extends beyond the classroom, shaping how we teach, how we operate, and how we care for people and the planet. As a Certified B Corporation with a score of 102.4 (well above the benchmark of 80), we're recognised for meeting exceptional standards of social and environmental performance. From sustainability initiatives to community partnerships, we're committed to ensuring that education can be a force for positive change. Every decision we make — whether academic, operational, or environmental — is guided by a long-term vision of responsibility, fairness, and impact.

Our Vision for Sustainable Education

We believe that world-class learning and sustainability belong together. Education should strengthen not just academic skills, but global awareness, responsibility, and a sense of personal agency. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to helping young people see how their learning connects with real-world progress.

Our sustainability efforts go beyond the classroom — from reducing operational emissions where possible to supporting low-carbon and community-focused initiatives at home and abroad. As our Co-Founder Harry Hortyn says, “We’re proud to deliver exceptional teaching while making a positive mark on the world.”

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Atlas Summer Courses, sustainability is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time achievement. As a Certified B Corporation, we are independently assessed against rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency, ensuring that we continue to balance purpose with long-term business success.

By choosing Atlas Summer Courses, students become part of an organisation that believes education can be a force for positive change—helping to build a more sustainable, inclusive, and responsible future for generations to come.

Our sustainability strategy influences how we operate, who we work with, and how we deliver our programmes. From reducing our environmental impact and strengthening responsible business practices to supporting communities and promoting environmental awareness, we are committed to making measurable progress year after year.

Our Commitment to Continuous Improvement

At Atlas Summer Courses, sustainability is a long-term commitment. As a Certified B Corporation, we regularly review our operations to identify opportunities to reduce our environmental impact, strengthen responsible business practices, and improve the way we deliver our summer programmes.

We know there is always more to do. That's why we continue to set new goals, measure our progress, and invest in initiatives that help create a more sustainable future for our students, our communities, and the environment.

Continuous improvement is embedded across our organisation. From reviewing suppliers and purchasing decisions to reducing waste, improving operational efficiency, and working with partners who share our values, we look for practical ways to make a measurable difference. Every decision is guided by our commitment to balancing educational excellence with social and environmental responsibility.

Supporting Access to Higher Education

At Atlas Summer Courses, we believe every talented student should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential, regardless of their background. That's why we're proud to support our sister charity, Universify Education, which helps students from underrepresented backgrounds access higher education through mentoring, university preparation, workshops, and residential experiences.

Since 2016, we've supported more than 900 students through financial contributions, volunteering, and shared expertise. Together, we've helped young people build the confidence, knowledge, and skills to progress to leading universities—including Oxford and Cambridge—demonstrating how education can create lasting social impact and expand opportunities for future generations.

Sustainable Choices for Branded Items

At Atlas Summer Courses, sustainability influences even the smallest details of our summer programmes. We carefully select branded items and course materials with durability, practicality, and environmental responsibility in mind, helping to reduce waste while encouraging students to make more sustainable choices.

Where possible, we choose products made from more sustainable materials, including recycled backpacks, bamboo stationery, and reusable stainless-steel water bottles. By replacing single-use alternatives with long-lasting products, we aim to reduce our environmental impact while demonstrating how thoughtful everyday choices can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Our Partnership with Climate Impact Partners

At Atlas Summer Courses, we're committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting climate action beyond our own operations. That's why we partner with Climate Impact Partners, a global leader in carbon market solutions, to support independently verified projects that reduce carbon emissions, protect natural ecosystems, and create lasting social and economic benefits for communities around the world.

Through this partnership, we help support initiatives including forest conservation, ecosystem restoration, and low-carbon community projects that reduce emissions while protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable development. By investing in verified climate projects, we're helping create a more sustainable future while ensuring our commitment to environmental responsibility is reflected in the way Atlas Summer Courses operates.

Supporting the Gyapa Cookstoves Project in Ghana

As part of our partnership with Climate Impact Partners, Atlas Summer Courses proudly supports the Gyapa Efficient Cookstoves Project in Ghana. The project provides fuel-efficient cookstoves that help households reduce wood consumption, lower carbon emissions, improve indoor air quality, and reduce pressure on local forests.

Beyond its environmental impact, the project delivers meaningful social benefits by helping families spend less time and money collecting fuel while promoting healthier cooking conditions. By supporting initiatives like Gyapa, Atlas Summer Courses is helping invest in practical climate solutions that create lasting environmental and community impact.
